Why does this gripe fail to impress? For 25 years, everyone from minorities to women to academics to immigrants to “transgenders” has been bashing non-gay, middle-class, white males from the suburbs. Why would you expect that this attitude wouldn't be applied to college admissions as well?
As an example, my relative's son just finished his college acceptance/rejection roller coaster. He is a male from the suburbs who had a whopping score on the new SAT, is a National Merit Scholar, has a near-perfect GPA in all Advanced Placement classes, is a very well-rounded good kid and isn't a “grind” type of nerd at all. Yet he was rejected by all the Ivy League schools he applied to. (Fortunately, some more enlightened University of California campuses plus a certain school in Palo Alto did admit him).

DON'T CRY WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL. The editorial board at USA Today expresses support for affirmative action for boys, with a dissenting view that suggests holding girls to a higher standard is eerily reminiscent of the old days. The letters of reaction come in a few days later. The third is priceless.
